Level-II explained by Toni Turner's A beginner's guide to short-term trading:
This image displays a level-II screen for JNPR. Bid at left and Ask at right.
Current quote is 33.19 x 33.20
There is only 400 shares listed on the inside bid. NITE is bidding to buy 100
and MASH is to buy 300.
btrd, isld, inca wait to sell 27500 shares. That much selling pressure will
surely lower price in the short-term (seconds to minutes) to the next price
level down on the bid, 33.15.
At 33.15, Island waits to buy 58000 shares. If it isn't offset by sellers on the ask,
that relatively large buy order should push price higher, on the short-term.
So, if you had a direct-access account with a level II order-entry system, you could
place your order to buy at 33.15.
